U-86

U-86 entered service on 10 May 1941, with a crew of 50, under the command of Kapitänleutnant Walter Schug.[1] On its eight active patrols, U-86 saw the following actions:

  • 16 January 1942: Damaged British ship Toorak, 8,627 tons.[3]
  • 18 January 1942: Sank Greek ship Dimitrios G Thermiotis, 4,271 tons.[4]
  • 7 August 1942: Sank the United States ship Wawaloam, 342 tons.[5]
  • 25 February 1943: U-86 was attacked and damaged by an unidentified aircraft.[1]
  • 11 March 1943: Sank the Norwegian ship Brant County, 5,001 tons.[6]

Having reported for the last time on 28 November 1943, U-86 was listed as missing/lost with all hands while operating in the North Atlantic on 14 December.
